How to run IPS in GNS3

For IPS 4235 ver 6.0:
1) Download the Disk image (disk1 and disk2) and extract them.
2) You will need also JRE6update7
3) In GNS, go to Edit> Preferences> Qemu> IDS and configure the following:
  • for the binary image 1 and 2 browse for the ones you've downloaded in step 1
  • RAM : 1024 MB
  • NIC Model: e1000
  • Qemu Options : -smbios type=1,product=IDS-4235
  • Press save then OK

4) now you can use the IDS with the following credentials:
  • username: cisco
  • password: ciscoips4215
5) To manage through IME you can also download  Cisco IPS Manager Express (IME) 7.1.1

Password works for me. I noticed the numeric keys on my keyboard does not work in the IPS console so I used the numeric keys top of the letters. Try it.

The IDS starts, but unable to console. Any idea why the console is refusing connection on localhost on the port its set up on?
