Extend the SSL tunnel port range in ISA

Some times u want tio connect to some web sites with non default ssl port 443, for example https://www.x.com:8443/ in such cases the ISA server will block the request and "The page can not be displayed" will be shown without any isa server error message. If u go isa monitoring and monitor the packets, u will see that some packets are denied with error message
"The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed. ISA Server is not configured to allow SSL requests from this port. Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests. "
In this case u have to extend the SSL tunnel port range, to do so u can download this software:

VPN without Static IP (Dynamic DNS)

There are some situations that u can not have the static ip address from the ISP, but u still need to be able to connect to your home/office network from internet (VPN,Web Server, FTP Server,...). In that case u can use dynamic dns. let me explain the procedure;

1) u have to use one of the web sites that offer this service such as http://www.dyndns.com/ and make an account there.( In fact in this case u r making a dns record that points to your Public IP address ,this dns record will be configured on the web site with some predefined dns domains such as *.dnsalias.com .Becuz of that it is not static and it can be changed, u must some how let the web site to know the change. In order to do that go to step 2.)

2) install the dynamic update software from the web site and install it on a server that is connected to the internet and configure the same credentials on it. now when ever there is a change in your ip address the software will change the dns record for u.

so u can connect to the dns name of your network not the ip.

Remove Exchange Server 2007

When you want to remove exchange sever 2007 there will be a problem with public folder data base to resolve the issue follow these steps:

1)Verify that the public folder store doesn't contain any data that you must save.
2)Open the Exchange Management Console and dismount the public folder store.
3)Once the store is dismounted, close the Exchange Management Console.

4) Open ADSI and navigate through the console tree to:

Configuration -> Configuration -> Services -> Microsoft Exchange -> your Exchange organization -> Administrative Groups -> the Exchange 2007 administrative group -> Servers -> the server containing the store that you want to delete -> Information Store -> the storage group containing the store that you want to delete

5)The right-hand column should list the public folder store located in the selected storage group. 6) Right click on public folder database and choose Delete from the menu.
7) When asked if you want to delete the object, click Yes.
8) When the store's reference has been deleted, close ADSI Edit.

Keyboard numlock state at startup

Wake on LAN (WOL, sometimes WoL) is an Ethernet computer networking standard that allows a shut-down computer to be turned on remotely. Most of new motherboards that has integrated ethernet controller supports this feature. You can enable the Wake on LAN feature in the Power Management section of the motherboard’s BIOS.

This is how Wake on LAN works. The target computer is shut down, with power reserved for the network card. The network card listens for a specific packet, called the “Magic Packet”. The listening computer receives this packet, checks it for the correct information, and then boots if the Magic Packet is valid. A magic packet is data consisting of “FF FF FF FF FF FF” followed by 16 repetitions of the listening network device’s MAC address.

I'm seeing some indications that the SP1 installer, in some instances, removes the /selfupdate virtual directory from the Default Web Site.
So u have to create a virtual directory named 'selfupdate' with anonymous access enabled, and link it to the pathname at "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Selfupdate "
Check the folder permissions on the SelfUpdate directory, located at "C:\Program Files\Update Service\SelfUpdate", Make sure the IUSR_ComputerName has Read&Execute, Read, List Folders permission on the folder. (In some cases the IUSR_ComputerName permission is missing.)

If you want your internal users to receive email from others outside the LAN, there are 2 possible ways to do so.

1) Make a MX record on Internet dns servers that points to your mail server's public IP.

2) Let 3rd Party companies host your mail server. The problem is that in such a way you must have a POP3 account for each user. To solve this problem you can make a catch all account which receives all emails. Then your exchange server must connect to the hosting server and receive emails, after that your exchange server will decide the receiver and forward it to that mailbox. unfortunately exchange does not not support this so you must use some 3rd party software. Transfer WSUS updates to another server

This Post show u how to simplify the Exchange 2K7 Outlook Web Access URL users have to enter to gain access to their mailbox using HTTPS.

1) Open notepad and type the folowing lines into it (replace with your server name)

2) Save it to your system drive under the directory\inetpub\wwwroot as an htm file. You could name it HTTPSRedirect.htm.

3) Open IIS Manager and navigate to Web Sites/Default Web Site. Right-click Default WebSite and then click Properties.

4) Click the Home Directory tab and then click the A Redirection to a URL option. In Redirect To, type /owa. In the The Client Will Be Sent To: list, select a directory below URL entered.

5) Click the tab Custom Errors, and select HTTP Error 403;4 in the table, then click Edit. Locate the file HTTPSRedirect.htm you just created, and click OK to save the new configuration.

6) Restart IIS by opening a command-prompt window and typing iisreset /noforce.

7) Test the configuration by opening a browser window, and enter the servername URL with HTTP; you will see that you will be redirected automatically to HTTPS servername/owa .

Synching to an External Time Source

If you want to ensure that the clocks on your machines are more accurate in terms of absolute (and not just relative) time, you can sync the PDC Emulator in your forest root domain to one of the reliable time servers available on the Internet. This is a good idea if your company is a large enterprise with sites spanning several countries, or if your organization has two or more forests linked by forest trusts. The procedure for doing this on a PDC Emulator running Windows Server 2003 in the forest root domain is as follows. Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and configure the following registry entries:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\Type
This registry entry determines which peers W32Time will accept synchronization from. Change this REG_SZ value from NT5DS to NTP so the PDC Emulator synchronizes from the list of reliable time servers specified in the NtpServer registry entry described below.
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config\AnnounceFlags
This registry entry controls whether the local computer is marked as a reliable time server (which is only possible if the previous registry entry is set to NTP as described above). Change this REG_DWORD value from 10 to 5 here.
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\NtpServer
This registry entry specifies a space-delimited list of stratum 1 time servers from which the local computer can obtain reliable time stamps. The list may consist of one or more DNS names or IP addresses (if DNS names are used then you must append ,0x1 to the end of each DNS name). For example, to synchronize the PDC Emulator in your forest root domain with tock.usno.navy.mil, an open-access SNTP time server run by the United States Naval Observatory, change the value of the NtpServer registry entry from time.windows.com,0x1 to tock.usno.navy.mil,0x1 here. Alternatively, you can specify the IP address of this time server, which is 192.5.41.209 instead.
Now stop and restart the Windows Time service using the following commands:
net stop w32time
net start w32time
It may take an hour or so for the PDC Emulator to fully synchronize with the external time server because of the nature of the polling method W32Time uses. Depending on the latency of your Internet connection, the accuracy of the CMOS clock on your forest root PDC Emulator may be within a second or two of UTC. If you need more accurate time however, you can purchase a hardware time source like an atomic clock and connect it to your PDC emulator.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to wait for time convergence to occur between your stratum 2 time server (your forest root PDC Emulator) and the external stratum 1 time server, you can run the following command on your PDC Emulator:
w32tm /resync /rediscover
Tip There are additional registry settings you can configure to ensure external time synchronization operates effectively, see this article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for details.

Domain Users Cannot Join Workstation or Server to a Domain

Windows 2K3 grants the "Add workstations to domain" privilege to the Authenticated Users group by default. When this privilege is enabled, authenticated users can bypass the access control list (ACL) check for up to a predefined maximum value. To prevent misuse, the maximum number of machine accounts any authenticated user can join is 10 by default.
To resolve this problem, use the appropriate method.

Method 1: Pre-Create the User's Computer Account

1. From the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, right-click the container where the account resides.
2. Click New, and then click Computer.
3. In the Computer name box, type the name of the Windows 2000-based computer that you want to add to the domain. Make sure the computer's name is also entered in the Computer name (pre-Windows 2000) box (this should occur automatically).
4. Click Change. Select the user or group that will be joining this computer to the domain, and then click OK.
5. If you want Windows NT 4.0 and previous operating systems to use this computer name object, click to select the Allow pre-Windows 2000 computers to use this account check box, and then click OK.

Method 2: Grant the "Create Computer Objects" and "Delete Computer Objects" Access Control Entries (ACEs) to the User

1. From the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, click Advanced Features on the View menu so that the Security tab is exposed when you click Properties.
2. Right-click the Computers container, and then click Properties.
3. On the Security tab, click Advanced.
4. On the Permissions tab, click Authenticated Users, and then click View/Edit. NOTE: If the Authenticated Users group is not listed, click Add and add it to the list of permission entries.
5. Make sure the This object and all child objects option is displayed in the Apply onto box.
6. From the Permissions box, click to select the Allow check box next to the Create Computer Objects and Delete Computer Objects ACEs, and then click OK.

Method 3: Override the Default Limit of the Number of Computers an Authenticated User Can Join to a Domain

You can override the default limit, using either of the following methods:
• Use the Ldp (Ldp.exe) tool included in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit.
• Use an Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI) script to increase or decrease the value of the Active Directory ms-DS-MachineAccountQuota attribute. To do this:
1. Install the Windows 2000 Support tools if they have not already been installed. To install these tools, run Setup.exe from the Support\Tools folder on the Windows 2000 Server or the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM.

How To Enable Automatic Logon in Windows

To enable automatically logon, do the following:

1. Start Regedt32.exe, and then locate the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft \WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

2. Using your account name and password, double-click the DefaultUserName entry, type your user name, and then click OK.

3. Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your password, and then click OK.NOTE: If the DefaultPassword value does not exist, follow these steps:

a. Click Add Value on the Edit menu.

b.In the Value Name box, type DefaultPassword, and then click REG_SZ for the Data Type

c.Type your password in the String box, and then save your changes.Also, if no DefaultPassword string is specified, Windows automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon key from 1 (true) to 0 (false), which disables the AutoAdminLogon feature.

4.Click Add Value on the Edit menu, enter AutoAdminLogon in the Value Name box, and then click REG_SZ for the Data Type.

5.Type 1 in the String box, and then save your changes.

6.Quit Regedt32.

7.Click Start, click Shutdown, and then click OK to turn off your computer.

8.Restart your computer and Windows. You are now able to log on automatically.

Access-Based Enumeration (ABE)

Access-Based Enumeration (ABE), a new technology included in Windows Server 2003 R2. (ABE was actually first included in Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003, but this service pack forms the basis of the R2 version of the platform.) What ABE does is just what Windows admins have always been wishing Windows file servers would do—hide files and folders from users who don't have access to them.

First u should download a component that provides a user interface (both graphical and command-line) that allows you to enable and configure ABE on your server. You can download this component here from the Microsoft Download Center, but make sure you download the correct version depending upon your processor platform (x86, AMD64 or IA64). Once you've downloaded the appropriate Windows Installer package, install it on all R2/SP1 file servers you want to enable ABE functionality on.

Limitations of ABE

There are a few limitations of ABE:
-You need Windows Server 2003 R2 or SP1 in order to be able to use it.
Users who are administrators will be able to see every file and folder in a share even with ABE enabled and even when they have Deny ACE on these items.
-ABE does not apply to users who can log on interactively to the server, regardless of whether they are administrators or not. This means ABE isn't really suitable for Terminal Services environments.
-You can't configure ABE so that a newly created share is automatically ABE-enabled.
-Finally, ABE adds a few percentage points processing overhead to the file server, and this must be taken into account in heavy-load situations.

The good news however is that ABE is built into the new Windows Vista and Longhorn Server platforms and is enabled by default and needs absolutely no configuration on those platforms. So a folder shared on a Vista machine will only show its contents to users who have permissions to access items within it.

Last word on the subject

ABE is a good thing, especially if your company stores sensitive business information on file servers on your network. Remember that a malicious (or merely curious) user can sometimes find out a lot about your business merely by viewing the names of documents stored in shared folders on your file servers. What would an employee do if they nosed around and found a document named OurCEOwillretiretomorrow.doc? Probably sell his shares fast and tell his friends as well, and soon your company will have the SEC or some other regulatory agency breathing down your neck for insider trading!

Remove Administrative Shares?

Windows creates hidden Administrative Shares at the root of each drive and to the system root folder to allow administrators to remotely access the data. If a server or workstation will not be administered remotely or has no need for the Administrative Shares though, they should be removed so that they don't provide a potential attack vector for a hacker or malware to enter the system.
If the system does not need to be accessed or administered remotely you can permanently remove the hidden administrative shares by editing the registry. Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters

To remove the hidden shares add a DWORD entry called AutoShareWks and set the DWORD value to 0. If you later need to restore access to the hidden shares you can simply delete the AutoShareWks DWORD entry and reboot the computer and the shares will automatically be recreated.

Create a file/folder with no name

Right click where u want to create the folder then select New>Folder Now it's time to type a name for the folder "Hold ALT and type 0160 then release ALT". U have created a folder with no name.
Now Right Click the folder click Properties. Select Customize tab and click change icon at bottom. Select the empty icon and click OK. U will not c the folder that u have just created but if u double click on its place the folder will be open.
